New Installation on Visual Studio 2010

Jul 27, 2010 at 6:31 PM

Hey Guys,

Could you please advise me what step am I missing?

I am trying to install WSPBuilder.

My machine has: Windows 2010 R2, Visual Studio 2010 Professional, Share Point 2010 Sever

I have downloaded WSPBuilder from WSPBuilder Extensions 1.06 - x86 / x64 bit and IIS6 / IIS7 support.

I have right clicked on the WSPBuilderExtensions.msi file and clicked on "UnBlock" in Security.

I am logged in using Admin account.

My installation is successful every time however I dont see "WSPBuilder" project templates in Visual Studio 2010. I also saw "Tool-->Addin Manager" but there is nothing here. Its showing blank.

Event viewer is showing no error.

My first doubt is if I am using correct msi package? And second is do I need to install earlier version of WSPBuilder before installing the latest one?

Could you please advise me?

Thanks in advance.

One point is to look for templates under Visual Basic or C#, not under SharePoint.

Hi ACrush, I had seen all the categories including Visual Basic and C#. WSPBuilder templates are not there. My doubt is if I am using correct Build (I am using latest build and yesterday I gave it try using 1.4XXX build too).

Anyway thanks for your reply.

Dear Carsten and others,

I have a similar problem. I installed the 1.6 on Win7 with VS2010 ultimate 64bit. When I check the event log it claims a succesful install.

I installed and repaired several times, rebooted checked under all new project templates, tried to add a new item to an excisting project.

But nowhere can I find the WSP templates. Is there anywhere I can 'unhide' the templates or where I can go around the UI to use a certain template which would be available in the file system.

BTW I also checked the externsion manager in hope off - would be nice to find the WSPbuilder as an online extension.

I will also try to install at home -and will watch this space, but looking at the history I'm worried there is no solution.

Rgds,

Nico

Dear Carsten and others,

I think I spotted the problem : me . I thought the 2010 version was exclusively for SharePoint 2010 development - but reading over some blogs again it appears to be for VS2010 and you can still do a SP2007 WSP with it..

Maybe this Duh! applies also to some of the other posters.

There used to be a 2.0 version that works with TFS 2010.  Where is it now?

There is a separate version: WSP Builder Extensions 2010 Beta 1.4 specifically for SharePoint 2010/Visual Studio 2010 (here http://wspbuilder.codeplex.com/releases/30858/download/94507).

Like you, I have VS2010 and SharePoint 2010. I made the mistake of downloading the "Recommended Download" (WSP Builder Extension 1.06...) and after installing, I could not find any WSP Builder project templates available in my Visual Studio 2010. Browsing Carsten's blog http://keutmann.blogspot.com/2009/12/wspbuilder-2010-beta.html  I noticed that it mentions "Please look on codeplex under Download. It's the last file of the 4 available."  After I got the WSP Builder Extensions 2010 Beta 1.4 the templates became available as expected.

I just signed in to say Thank you to mcox13579 for directing to the right download for VS2010. Saved me sometime.
